Who shall be saved? Have we ever consider that? Is salvation contingent to our acceptance or rejection of certain sets of religious beliefs? I will not venture to comment on what other religions or beliefs say regarding this matter. Suffice it to say that they have their own prescriptions for salvation. I will delve on what the Bible says regarding this subject matter.
John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Let us reflect on this most important statement. It shows the great love of God for the world that He was willing to sacrifice His only begotten Son to save mankind from certain death and eternal damnation. And what is the prescription for salvation in this verse? It says belief in His only begotten Son, who is Jesus Christ, will merit for the believer, eternal life.
Why must Jesus Christ sacrifice His own life to save us? Because we were born under the state of depravity and were unable to attain salvation on our own merits. No amount of good works could ever suffice to save ourselves because the only good and finished work that the Father will ever recognize was that of His only begotten Son.
What does belief in Jesus Christ mean so that we can attain eternal life and salvation? That means, we have to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and personal Savior, confess our sins to Him, and have His most precious blood wash away all our sins and iniquities, then surrender our lives to Him.
How can we do this? By praying the prayer of acceptance containing all the requirements mentioned above. The wordings are not that important and may vary from person to person as what the Holy Spirit may lead him. The main contents of the prayer of acceptance are as follows:
1. Acceptance of Jesus Christ as Lord and personal Savior.
2. Confess all our sins to Him. Sins we committed in thoughts ,words and
deeds, from the time we were born up to the time of acceptance, including
sins we inherited from our parents and great, great grandparents up to the fourth degree of affinity.
3. Allow His most precious blood, that was shed in Calvary, to wash away all our
sins, however depraved and abominable they may be.
4. Surrender our lives to Jesus Christ and strive to avoid sin and walk under His
will and guidance.
If we consciously and sincerely do this, the following events will occur:
1. We become children of God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ in God's Kingdom.
2. Our names will be written in The Book of Life in heaven and we will be
assured of eternal lives and salvation.
3. All the sins we ever committed in our entire lives will be erased clean as if they were never committed at all.
4. The holiness and righteousness of Jesus Christ will be imputed upon us, thus
giving us the right to have access to the most holy presence of God.
5. The Holy Spirit will overshadow us and will bring to life our dead spirit, thus
enabling us to be born in Spirit and in truth.
6. The Holy Spirit will open our eyes to the eternal truths of God's words, thus
empowering us to overcome all the wiles of the enemy- the devil.
7. As we walk in the will of God and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we
will be transformed from glory to glory, until we reach the whole measure of
the fullness of Jesus Christ.
Join me in praying this prayer of acceptance and experience spiritual rebirth
and the overflowing power, love and joy from the Holy Spirit.
Dear Jesus, I accept you as my Lord and personal Savior. I confess all my sins
to you, sins that I committed in thoughts, words and in deeds, since the time
I was born until now; sins I inherited from my parents and great, great
grandparents. Wash them clean by your most precious blood that You shed in Calvary. I surrender my life to you and I will love and serve
You for the remaining years of my life. Let my name be written in the Book of
Life in heaven. Pour out Your Spirit upon me and strengthen and empower me
to overcome all the wiles of the enemy. Father God, this I declare and affirm
right here and now, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Pope John Paul II. Was he saved?
thanks for leaving a great comment in my blog.
and i love your prayers.
daddy tk: he's saved. he's to be a saint, right? :)
Hi TK,
Thanks for visiting my blog and for your very intriguing question. I've heard that question from so many Christians before and I'm so amused. The Bible said, "judge not that you may not be judged" and "with what measure you measure, so shall it be measured unto you." I think it's the height of presumptuousness and extreme self righteousness for people to judge another person where he shall go. I feel only the Lord knows where each person will eventually go. Remember the Parable of the Pharisee and the Publican? Thanks for your visit and your somewhat intriguing question. You're always welcome here. I will temporarily link you with my blog and I hope you do the same with mine. Smile. God bless and have a nice an blessed day.
