Salvation - Part 4 (Why Do We Need Salvation?)

WHY DO WE NEED SALVATION? That is probably the question people, who does not yet have the assurance of true salvation, ask. Indeed, why do we need salvation? Because we were born under a curse, under the state of depravity.

We were born with the natural proclivity to sin. Sin is enjoyable and desirous, but sin will lead us to eternal death without the remedy of true salvation.

Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus." This verse gives man the option where he wants to go after
his death. If he dies under the state of sin, he goes to eternal death and damnation.

But the free gift of God is eternal life with Him by means of Jesus Christ. In other words, believing in Jesus Christ assures us of eternal life with God.

Can we not effect salvation by ourselves through personal piety and good works? The answer is a big No. The only way to salvation is Jesus Christ. If there is any other way, do you think the Father will still send His only begotten Son to die on the cross just to save mankind? He would have just given us prescriptions for salvation like what other religions give and spare Himself the agony of seeing His Son die on the cross.

Do you mean to say I just have to believe in Jesus Christ to be able to attain salvation? Yes. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast."

To be saved by faith means to Trust In Jesus Christ Alone to save you. Good works are not the means to salvation; rather they are the evidences or by-products of your salvation.

"All who call on the name of the Lord will be saved."

I don't know about the Muslims Jim. I never studied their Koran. From what I know, Jews and Arabs came from the same progeny- Abraham. The father of the Arabs- Ismael was born of the slave girl- Hagar whom Abraham cohabited. And the father of the Jews- Isaac (the father of Jacob or Israel)was born from Abraham's wife Sarah.

Christianity believes in the blessed Trinity- 3 Persons in 1 God. Jesus Christ is the 2nd Person of the blessed Trinity who was sent by the Father to save humanity from destruction and eternal death as punishment for the original sin of
Adam which was transmitted to all mankind. Because of that original sin, man lost his divine blueprint (created in the image and likeness of God [Genesis]} and his spirit became dead. Thus he is born in the state of depravity unable to save himself from his fallen state. The Father, in His unfailing love for all mankind, sent His only begotten Son (Jesus Christ) to atone and be the sacrificial Lamb to save humanity from certain destruction. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." The Father sent only one messenger and sacrificial Lamb, and that is Jesus Christ. Thus Jesus said in John 14:6, "Jesus answered, 'I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.'"
According to the Bible, Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead, and those who did not accept His free gift of salvation (through belief in Him)will be condemned to eternal death.

The problem lies in the appreciation of the person of Jesus Christ since He is both man (born of the virgin Mary) and God (only begotten of the Father). The Muslims accept only His humanity and not His divinity. The Muslims call God Allah as revealed to them by the prophet Mohammad. The Muslims believe in the Koran as God's revealed truths while the Christians believe in the Bible as God's revealed truths. There lies the difference between the Muslims and the Christians.

There are more explanations involved but I cannot write it all here. Suffice it to say that I am espousing in this blog the Christian view of faith, salvation and eternal life.

Thanks for your visit Jim. Smile. God bless and have a nice and enlightening day.
