Suffering For Doing Good

"Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.
'Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.'
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who
ask you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clean
conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against
your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good
than for doing evil."

2Peter 3: 13-17

The Lord warned His followers before He was sentenced, died and went up to heaven . He warned His followers with these words, "in this world you will have trouble. But take heart for I have overcome the world " (John 6:33). Those who will follow Christ will suffer persecutions from unbelievers and even from self righteous believers. But we must have courage, for Christ's victory over all His adversaries, even His death on the cross, is also shared by all who believe in Him. Christ strength is our strength; His holiness and righteousness is our holiness and righteousness (they were imputed upon us when we accepted Him as our Lord and savior). In fact, He set no limit to what we can achieve by the power of His name. This is guaranteed in His promise that, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). If we suffer for doing good, we should not be discouraged for the Lord will vindicate us in the end. Remember Joseph in Genesis, he suffered all kinds of trials and was even jailed for doing what was righteous in his eyes and God vindicated him in the end. Remember, "All things work together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

Hi Shy,
God bless you all always.

Hi Priya,
God never wants us to suffer unnecessarily. But there are times when we have to pass through the refiner's fire so that all the dross and filth in us will be burned and what will come out will be the purest of gold, ready and able to serve God. That is why I placed a question mark on my statement because I was not sure you authored the poem. Thanks for your visit my sweet young friend. God bless you always.

Hi Kathy,
We have been set aside by the Lord for His own. That is why we are suffering from persecutions from those who have not accepted Him and whose spirit is at odds with the Holy Spirit in us. That is why Jesus taught us to turn the other cheek and not resist evil. Thanks for your visit and meaningful comments. God bless you all always.
