Love Of Money

"But godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into the world, and
we can take nothing out of it.
But if we have food and clothing, we will
be content with that.
People who want to get rich fall into
temptation and a trap and into many
foolish and harmful desires that plunge
men into ruin and destruction.
For the love of money is a root of all
kinds of evil.
Some people, eager for money, have
wandered from the faith and pierced
themselves with many griefs."

1Timothy 6: 6-10

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." The Bible does not say that money is a root of all evil but the love of money is. The Bible says that, "where your treasure is, there is your heart also." It further adds that, "you cannot love God and mammon (money) at the same time; either you choose one and reject the other." Money is not evil per se. God created money, that is why it is good. What is evil is the inordinate love for money that one will do all things in his power to get it by hook or by crook. Many politicians start out with noble intentions but when they are tempted with fabulous amount of money, they lose their principles and become entangled with amasing ill gotten wealth. Many clan wars have resulted in the death of many clan members because of quarrels with inherited properties. Many heirs end up in bitter judicial suits because they wanted to get the lion share of their inheritance. We can go on and on. But money donated to charities and used to alleviate the sufferings of the needy and dispossessed are money well spent and those who practice them are continuously blessed by the Lord. Let us honor God with our money.

Absolutely, if we are blessed with money, I hope and pray that we don't forget to spend it to its purpose.

Godbless Mel!

Mel, thanks for this very healthy reflection. I have had to learn the hard way that money is to have its rightful place under the throne of our Lord.

He is the pearl of great price; nothing should take the place of Him in my heart's affections.

Hi teJan,
Yes, there are a lot of good things we can do if ever we are blessed with money by the Lord. We could use it to further glorify His name by helping those who need help the most, like the least of our brethren. Thanks for your visit and inspiring comments. God bless you and your loved ones always.

Hi Steve,
Yes, the Lord should be supreme in our pedestal and He should not share it with anybody else. Money can do a lot of good if spent wisely but it will lead us down the drain if we use it unwisely. Thanks for your visit and inspired comments. God bless you always.

Hi Shy,
The love of money not money itself is the root of all evil. Money is good if we use it for noble intentions. Even if you have all the money in the world, you cannot burn all evils because evil is caused by the absence of goodness in man. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you all always.

Thanks for making us understand that the love of money is a sin but not money itself. We all would want to live comfortable lives and the only way to achieve it is through having enough money.

If I go shopping ba kuya Mel and buy stuff, does that mean that I love money? What makes you a servant of money? Kasi po hindi ko masyadong maintindihan if what I'm doing is too much or not. Please help me understand.

With regards to heirs of properties, totoo po iyon, kaya nang mawala po ang lola ko and she left properties for all of us, hindi ko na po kinuha ang share ko, ibinigay ko na lng sa mga kapatid ko. I do understand that they need it more than I do at para na rin po maiwasan ang hidwaan...

Salamat po kuya Mel sa post and God bless...

Hi Kathy,
I never really intended to be your conscience. Pinagtatagni tagni ko lang yung mga posts mo at through them nakakabuo ako nang ideya what's happening in your life. Hindi masamang mag shopping if you have the money to spend at hindi naman overboard. But you can indulge in it, why not. Ang akin lang ay paalala not to go overboard. Sana naintindihan mo ako kaibigan. I feel you are doing good there as a mother and as a wife and for that, let me praise you. You make us all proud as Filipinos that your husband is very satisfied with you and you are raising your children the way the Lord wants them to be raised. Never have any doubts in your mind so long as your conscience is clear. Never let anybody else be your measuring stick to know how you stand with the Lord. The Holy Spirit will guide you in this. BTW, that is a very noble and laudable gesture you made when you waive your rights and gave your share of the inheritance of your lola to your siblings. God bless you more for that. In all, I would say you are doing very good my friend. Just keep it up and just know your priorities in life. Thanks for your visit and comments. God bless you all always.

Kuya Mel, hwag po kayong mag-alala, naiintindihan ko po where you're coming from. I am old enough to know na ang ang mga paalala mo ay dahil sa concerned ka sa akin. I am really honestly asking you kung mali ba ang ginagawa ko kasi mas mabuti na iyong nakasisiguro... hehehe

I am very open to criticisms.

Hi Kathy,
Napakabait at humble mong tao. God bless you more for your open mindedness. Salamat ulit sa dalaw. I really appreciate your visit kaya nga nung hindi ka nakakadalaw ay na miss kita. Sige, thanks ulit sa dalaw at paliwanang. God bless you all always.

My husband and I have experienced the destructive power of the love of money can have...
His father has always put money before God, family and friends. But when he hit 70 years old, he left my husband's mother, who was also going through cancer treatment. After 50 years of marriage he valued his money more than family. It was and still is heartbreaking!

Hi Dawn,
I commiserate with you and your husband. That was really devastating for your mother in law. As the Bible says, "for the love of money is the root of all evils." Having so much money with low scruples make for a devastating formula for destruction of values and relationships. Love of money begets so many desires and cravings which money can give and the person is overwhelmed by the sheer power of money and become so entangled with it that he loses his very soul. That is the reason why God prepares us first before He answer our petition for money, for we may be asking for our own destruction. Thanks for your visit and meaningful comments. God bless.
