Rules For Holy Living

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly
loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness,
humility, gentleness and patience.
Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances
you may have against one another.
Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
And over all these virtues put on love,
which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,
since as members of one body you were
called to peace.
And be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
as you teach and admonish one another
with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms,
hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude
in your hearts to God.

And whatever you do, whether in word
or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord
Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father
through Him."

Colossians 3: 12-17

We must strengthen one another through the singing of psalms and in all kinds of work in the different ministries for the Lord. We gently rebuke those whose paths are swerving to the left. We should encourage one another especially in moments of weakness and trials. We must forgive one another as God has freely forgiven us and must never hold on to grudges and hurts for these will open the way for the spirit of bitterness to creep into our hearts. Above all these, we must love one another as Christ loved us and gave His own life so that we can be free and enjoy the benefit of joy, peace and eternal life.

God's Righteous Judgment

"God will give to each person according to what he has done.
To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor
and immortality, He will give eternal life.

But for those who are self seeking and who reject the truth
and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger.
There will be trouble and distress for every human being
who does evil."

Romans 2:6-9

Those who persist in self seeking and pleasurable ways in this world, indulging in all kinds of sin and pleasures, will inherit wrath and judgment from the Lord. But for those who have been persistent in doing good and honoring God with their exemplary lives will inherit eternal life. This world is just a transient place before we go to our final destination- either eternal bliss with God in heaven or eternal damnation with the devil and other accursed in hell. Which destination would we choose?

Call To Righteousness By The Lord

" This is what God the Lord says-
He who created the heavens and
stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and all
that comes out of it,
who gives breath to its people,
and life to those who walk on it:

'I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness;
I will take hold of your hand.
I will keep you and will make you
to be a covenant for the people
and a light for the gentiles,
to open eyes that are blind
to free captives from prison
and to release from the dungeon
those who sit in darkness.

'I am the Lord; that is my name!
I will not give glory to another
or my praise to idols.
See, the former things have taken place,
and new things I declare;
before they spring into being
I announce them to you."

Isaiah 42: 5-9

We are all called to righteousness by the Lord in the furtherance of His kingdom here on earth. We must be very careful in everything that we say and do for the world watches us to see how we glorify or put to shame the name of the Lord. We become bearers of His name, saved and transformed to bear fruit that will glorify the name of the Lord. We must serve as the light of the world and salt of the earth, attracting people to our way of life so that we can become credible and effective testimonies for the Lord. Let us walk in faith and trust the Spirit of God to transform us from glory to glory until we reach the whole measure of the fullness of Jesus Christ. Until then, we are sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of our final reunion with Christ.

The Lord Is My Light And My Salvation

"The Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be
afraid?
When evil men advance against me to devour my flesh,
when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble
and fall.
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;
though war breaks out against me, even then will I be confident.

One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His
temple."

(Psalm 27:1-4)

The Lord is our light and our salvation. Although we are besieged by the enemy, the Lord will not leave us alone to fight our own battles. He is our shield and armor, a very strong help in times of needs. He is the light at the very end of the tunnel. He is the spring after the wintry weather of our soul. He gives us hope when everything else in us is drained. And He gives us His Spirit so that we can continue the fight until the final battle is won and we will meet Him face to face in His kingdom. There we will dwell with Him in eternal bliss.

The Eyes Of The Lord Are On Those Who Fear Him

"But the eyes of the Lord are on those
who fear Him,
On those whose hope is in His unfailing
love,
To deliver them from death and keep
them alive in famine.

We wait in hope for the Lord;
He is our help and our shield.
In Him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in His Holy Name.
May your unfailing love rest
upon us, O Lord, even as we put
our hope in You."

Psalm 33: 18- 22

In these times of economic uncertainties, of depression and recession, where the high and the mighty have collapsed; when even the very rich and powerful nations of the world crumbled to their knees, the children of God are shielded from all these misfortunes. We only have to cling to God's faithful promises and He will give us His divine providence in due time. We will be sustained by the love, goodness and mercy of our Lord. We just have to trust Him that He will always provide for all our needs in their appointed time. God is faithful and true and is never remiss in His promises. So instead of resorting to panic, fear and anxiety for the unknown, let us trust in the unfailing love of God to deliver us from all the misfortunes that is the lot of worldly men.

Cursed Is The One Who Trust In Man But Blessed Is The ONe Who Trust In The Lord

"This is what the Lord says: 'Cursed is the one
who trusts in man, who depends in flesh for
his strength and whose heart turns away from
the Lord.
He will be like a bush in the wastelands; he
will not see prosperity when it comes.
He will dwell in the parched places of the
desert, in a salt land where no one lives.

But blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in Him.
He will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves
are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit."

Jeremiah 17: 5- 8

Cursed is he who trust in the strength of men. He is doomed to failure in whatever he does. He will start a task and will not see it finished. But the man who trusts in the Lord is blessed by God. The Lord will bless all that his hands will do. Prosperity, peace and joy shall never be far from the man whose trust is in the Lord. The Lord is his strength and shelter in times of troubles.

The Lord's Compassion Never Fails

"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,
for His compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
I say to myself, 'The Lord is my portion; therefore
I will wait for Him.'

The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him,
it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
It is good for a man to bear the yoke while he is young.

Let him sit alone in silence, for the Lord has laid it on him.
Let him bury his face in the dust- there may yet be hope.
Let him offer his cheek to one who would strike him,
and let him be filled with disgrace.

For men are not cast off by the Lord forever.
Though He brings grief, He will show compassion, so great
is His unfailing love.
For He does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the
children of men."

Lamentations 3: 22-33

If you are in the midst of suffering or trials and it seems that there is no light at the end of the tunnel, do not lose hope or trust in God. Though He did not willingly bring your affliction, nevertheless, He allowed it for whatever purpose that is at His mind and it will be revealed in glory at some future time. Suffice it to say that all children of God undergo such trials and sufferings so that our characters may be refined and molded by the Master Molder for His own great purpose. Let us just trust in His unfailing love and hope to see the end of our affliction at the very end of the tunnel. There, the light will shine so brightly and will dispel all the anguish and darkness in our souls.

New Heavens And A New Earth

"Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth.
The former things will not be remembered, nor
will they come to mind.
But be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create,
for I will create Jerusalem to be a delight and
its people a joy.
I will rejoice over Jerusalem and take delight in my
people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be
heard in it no more.
Never again will there be an infant that lives but a
few days, or an old man who does not live out his
years; he who dies at a hundred will be considered
a mere youth; he who fails to reach a hundred will
be considered accursed.
They will build houses and dwell in them; they will
plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
No longer will they build houses and others live in
them, or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree, so will be the days of my
people; My chosen ones will long enjoy the works
of their hands."

Isaiah 65: 17-22

There will be new heavens and a new earth during the golden millennial reign of the King of kings and the Lord of lords- Jesus Christ. Satan will be chained for a thousand years and the earth will experience a thousand years of prosperity, peace and joy that the world has never witnessed before. People will grow to a very old age and there will be no more infant deaths. There will be justice and peace throughout all the land as Jesus Christ sit magnificently on His throne. All the kings of the earth will pay obeisance to the King of kings and Lord of lords. No one will ever go hungry again for there will be an abundance of food throughout the land. There will be no enmity, quarrels and wars as people will learn to live in love and harmony with one another under the reign of the Prince of peace.

False Teachers And Their Destructions

"But there were also false prophets among the people,
just as there will be false teachers among you.
They will secretly introduce destructive heresies,
even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-
bringing swift destruction on themselves.
Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring
the way of truth into disrepute.
In their greed these teachers will exploit you with
stories they have made up.
Their condemnation has long been hanging over
them, and their destruction has not been sleeping."

2Peter 2: 1-3

These are the end times and we are seeing the widespread works of the enemy throughout the world. The word of God is vilified and in its place, various teachings and pseudo doctrines abound the world, misleading even intelligent men. Some of their misleading teachings are reincarnation, bogus philosophies, strange doctrines that cater to the innate desire of man to live the so called good life. This is just hedonism sugar coated with so many fine words. We are shocked by the temerity and total disregard for the sanctity of life by so called suicide bombers who kill innocent people and themselves as well. Even women are being used as suicide bombers. What kind of philosophy or teaching can condone the taking of one's own life just to kill and maim other lives? Many people bow down to the lord of the world who keeps foisting his attractive lures and baits as people are led down the path to their own destruction. Many people are lukewarm, saying they believe in God and just stop there while also wallowing in the sinfulness of the world. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them and their destruction has not been sleeping.

Lead A Righteous Life

"Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray.
He who does what is right is righteous, just as
He is righteous.
He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because
the devil has been sinning from the beginning.
The reason the Son of God appeared was to
destroy the devil's work.
No one who is born of God will continue to sin,
because God's seed remains in him; he cannot
go on sinning, because he has been born of God.
This is how we know who the children of God are
and who the children of the devil are: Anyone
who does not do what is right is not a child of God;
nor is anyone who does not love his brother."

1John 3: 7-10

John admonished us to lead a righteous life befitting our title as children of God. Those who have been born again through the baptism of the Holy Spirit have been imbibed with power and grace from on high and must leave the path of sinful living. The word of God empowers us to be righteous just as our Lord who called us out of darkness is righteous. We cannot go on sinning and still avail of the wondrous gifts of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Sin, anger, strong emotions and contentiousness grieve the Holy Spirit. We must lead simple righteous lives ever waiting for the opportunity to do good deeds to others so that they may glorify our Father in heaven. Let us keep in step with our fellow saints here on earth and the angelic hosts in heaven in worshiping and praising the Lord for all His goodness in our lives. Let us honor God with a righteous life by not sinning.

Children Of God

"How great is the love the Father has lavished
on us, that we should be called children of God!
And that is what we are!
The reason the world does not know us is
that it did not know Him.
Dear friends, now we are all children of God, and
what we will be has not yet been made known.
But we know that when He appears,
we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him
as He is.
Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies
himself, just as He is pure."

1John 3:1-3

Children of God, how great does it sound? Have we ever really contemplated the full meaning of that phrase? We are the children of the greatest, the all powerful, the wisest, all seeing and all loving Person in the whole universe who created everything we see and beyond that. He created the whole universe and man, the pinnacle of His creation. If we have that great privilege, are we not supposed to enter His throne of grace in awe and reverential fear, befitting the glory and honor due to the King of kings and Lord of lords? But that's what we are. He loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son to save us from spiritual death that was our inborn nature and apparent destiny. And all those who accepted His beloved Son as their Lord and savior were conferred the title- sons and daughters and children of God. We will be able to see our glorious nature upon the return of our Lord here on earth to fetch and bring us to His heavenly kingdom. We will be transformed into the glorious body our Lord has. In the meantime, while we await His triumphant return, let us purify ourselves from all filth and evil of this world and be faithful to Him by living to please God and give glory to His name.

The Wise And Foolish Builders

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine
and put them into practice is like a wise man who
built his house on the rock.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds
blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall,
because it had its foundation on the rock.

But everyone who hears these words of mine and does
not put them into practice is like a foolish man who
built his house on sand.
The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds
blew and beat against the house, and it fell with a great
crash."

Matthew 7: 24-27

We must always be guided by the the word of God in our lives. But we must not be readers only of God's words, we must be doers as well. Hearing them and not practicing the word of God in our lives is like building a house in the sand. When the strong winds and storms of life come, the house built on sand will come crashing down. Doing what the word of God says is like building our spiritual muscles. When trials and temptations come we are strong enough to overcome them by the grace of God. We cannot successfully claim the great promises of God as contained in His words if we are not doing His will in our lives. We must practice what we read in the Bible and that would be like building our spiritual house upon a rock. The strong winds and storms will come and go but our house built on the rock shall always stand the test of time.

Making One's Calling And Election Sure

"His divine power has given us everything we need
for life and godliness through the knowledge of
Him who called us by His own glory and goodness.
Through these He has given us His very great and
precious promises, so that through them you may
participate in the divine nature and escape the
corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

For this very reason, make every effort to add to
your faith goodness, and to goodness, knowledge,
and to knowledge, self control, and to self control,
perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and
to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly
kindness, love.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing
measure, they will keep you from being ineffective
and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord
Jesus Christ.
But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted
and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed
from his past sins."

2Peter 1: 3-9

Many who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior and have been born again have forgotten who they have become. We must always remember that we are already a new creation in Christ. Our past lives and sinful living have been crucified with Christ on the cross along with its passions and evil desires. But since we are still living in this sinful transitory world, we must strive hard to follow the ways of the Lord by shunning evil and sinful living by claiming the divine promises of the Lord in the Bible. They have the power and strength to neutralize all the cunning traps set by the enemy for the children of God. We must strive hard to develop faith, goodness, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness and love. These traits, together with the fruit of the Holy Spirit, will assure our victory over the enemy until the day of the Lord's return.

Admonitions To Christians For Righteous Living

"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty
hand, that He may lift you up in due time.
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
Be self controlled and alert.
Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion
looking for someone to devour.
Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know
that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing
the same kind of sufferings."

1Peter 5: 5b- 10

The world as it is, is so evil right now, and darkness has covered the earth. The triumphant laughter of the enemy is heard all over the world. Men have immersed themselves in deceptions. They reject all kinds of heavenly authority and any form of afterlife, reward and punishment. That is why Peter admonished us to be humble so that God can lift us up from the depths of our sufferings. The people of God are persecuted around the world. But we must stand fast and claim God's promises to strengthen and protect us against all the wiles of the enemy. We may be undergoing trials right now but all our Christian brothers and sisters in Christ around the world are also experiencing sufferings and trials of their own. God is strengthening all of us so that we can resist the final attempt of the enemy to triumph over us. But we will prevail and our King will vanquish the enemy and throw him and his minions to the lake of fire together with all those they deceived. But we will be fetched by the Lord so that we can receive the crown of glory from our mighty King in His blissful abode to live with Him forevermore.

Live In Harmony With One Another

"Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another;
be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate
and humble.
Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but
with blessing, because to this you were called so that
you may inherit a blessing.
For, 'Whoever would love life and see good days must
keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful
speech.
He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek
peace and pursue it.

For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His
ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the
Lord is against those who do evil."

1Peter 3: 8-12

These are some of the rules for holy living as we await the triumphant return of our Lord Jesus Christ- the King of kings and the Lord of lords. We are admonished to live in harmony with everyone, even with unbelievers whom we must attract to our way of thinking by the good examples they see in us. We must also be compassionate and humble and must love one another as brothers and sisters. We must never repay evil for evil and insult for insult. Let the Lord avenge us from those who malign us or do evil against us. We must also not resort to gossiping and slander but we must reserve our tongues to praising God and giving glory to His name. If we continue to do good and glorify God in our lives, we can be assured that the eyes of God are always fixed on us and He is attentive to our prayers. The Lord blesses those who delight in Him.

Praise Be To God For A Living Hope

"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living
hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the
dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil
or fade- kept in heaven for you, who through faith are
shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation
that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while
you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.
These have come so that your faith- of greater worth
than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-
may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory
and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."

1Peter 1: 3-7

God has given us a living hope in Christ so that we will not stumble because of the many obstacles and enticing traps in this decadent and perishing world. In the utter darkness of modern man 's existence, the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead has given us a living hope of the same resurrection we will experience when Jesus Christ comes back to claim His glorious bride- His church. And though we suffer persecutions and calumnies in this world, that living hope is kept in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who strengthens us with power from on high. So we must not weaken and be discouraged when we feel we are swimming against the ocean of decadence and wanton living which the world is now experiencing. Our God is faithful to all His promises and we can hold on to these same promises to keep us above water and not sink in the quagmire of the world's sinfulness. In the end, we will receive the glorious crown of righteousness when the Lord is finally revealed at the end times.

Suffering For Doing Good

"Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?
But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.
'Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.'
But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who
ask you to give the reason for the hope that you have.
But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clean
conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against
your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.
It is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good
than for doing evil."

2Peter 3: 13-17

The Lord warned His followers before He was sentenced, died and went up to heaven . He warned His followers with these words, "in this world you will have trouble. But take heart for I have overcome the world " (John 6:33). Those who will follow Christ will suffer persecutions from unbelievers and even from self righteous believers. But we must have courage, for Christ's victory over all His adversaries, even His death on the cross, is also shared by all who believe in Him. Christ strength is our strength; His holiness and righteousness is our holiness and righteousness (they were imputed upon us when we accepted Him as our Lord and savior). In fact, He set no limit to what we can achieve by the power of His name. This is guaranteed in His promise that, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). If we suffer for doing good, we should not be discouraged for the Lord will vindicate us in the end. Remember Joseph in Genesis, he suffered all kinds of trials and was even jailed for doing what was righteous in his eyes and God vindicated him in the end. Remember, "All things work together for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose" (Romans 8:28).

The Lord Knows Us Inside Out

"O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; You perceive
my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
You are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue You know it
completely, O Lord.
You hem me in- behind and before;
You have laid Your hand before me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.

For You created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully and
wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from You when I
was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths
of the earth, Your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in
Your book before one of them came to be."

Psalm 139: 1-6, 13-16

The Lord knows us inside out. He knows everything about us in a way that we ourselves will never know. He knows everything that we do from sunrise to sunset and even when we are asleep. He knows every thought that we have- good, bad, sublime and rubbish. He knows all our emotions and feelings, our doubts and fears, each function of our body. He knows the number of days that we will live on earth, for that has been ordained the moment we were born. He knows us and calls us by our name. There is nothing we can hide from Him. Even our darkest secret is as visible as the naked sun to Him. And He loves us so much as a heavenly Father does to His child. He guides us every step that we make and will never leave us nor forsake us. His love was such that He gave His only begotten Son to die in our place at Calvary. The punishment that should have been ours was thrown at Him and by His wounds we are all healed of all our spiritual and physical sicknesses.

Love Of Money

"But godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into the world, and
we can take nothing out of it.
But if we have food and clothing, we will
be content with that.
People who want to get rich fall into
temptation and a trap and into many
foolish and harmful desires that plunge
men into ruin and destruction.
For the love of money is a root of all
kinds of evil.
Some people, eager for money, have
wandered from the faith and pierced
themselves with many griefs."

1Timothy 6: 6-10

"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." The Bible does not say that money is a root of all evil but the love of money is. The Bible says that, "where your treasure is, there is your heart also." It further adds that, "you cannot love God and mammon (money) at the same time; either you choose one and reject the other." Money is not evil per se. God created money, that is why it is good. What is evil is the inordinate love for money that one will do all things in his power to get it by hook or by crook. Many politicians start out with noble intentions but when they are tempted with fabulous amount of money, they lose their principles and become entangled with amassing ill gotten wealth. Many clan wars have resulted in the death of many clan members because of quarrels with inherited properties. Many heirs end up in bitter judicial suits because they wanted to get the lion share of their inheritance. We can go on and on. But money donated to charities and used to alleviate the sufferings of the needy and dispossessed are money well spent and those who practice them are continuously blessed by the Lord. Let us honor God with our money.

The Great Day Of The Lord

THE GREAT DAY OF THE LORD
"The great day of the Lord is near-
near and coming quickly.
Listen! The cry on the day of the Lord
will be bitter, the shouting of the warrior
there.
That day will be a day of wrath,
a day of distress and anguish,
a day of trouble and ruin,
a day of darkness and gloom,
a day of clouds and blackness,
a day of trumpet and battle cry
against the fortified cities
and against the corner towers.

I will bring distress on the people
and they will walk like blind men,
because they have sinned against
the Lord.
Their blood will be poured out like
dust and their entrails like filth.
Neither their silver or gold will be
able to save them on the day of
the Lord's wrath.
In the fire of His jealousy the whole
world will be consumed, for He will
make a sudden end of all who live
in the earth."

Zephaniah 1: 14-18

There are both historical and scatological (end times) interpretations of these verses. The historical one refers to the fall of Jerusalem, first from the Babylonians and lastly from the Romans, where people during those times were trapped inside the walls of Jerusalem under siege from the Babylonians. Life was so miserable then because of the scarcity of food that some Israelites resorted to cannibalism by eating their children just to survive the onslaught. In both the Babylonian and the Roman siege of the walls of Jerusalem and the eventual destruction of its magnificent temple, very few escaped the sword and death. On the scatological (end times) interpretation of these verses, people of the world have been shown examples of how the end times will come. These examples were the deluge during Noah's time, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, the seven great plagues on Egypt and the fall of Jerusalem. The earth will be tried by fire where all the elements will melt and where there will be terrible signs in the sky. After the worldwide cataclysm, Jesus Christ will appear amidst the loud voice of the angel and the trumpet calls that shall emanate around the world. Those who have been dead shall rise first through the powerful command of the Lord, and the living and dead shall be judged. Those whose names are not written in the Book of Life shall be condemned to the Lake of Fire together with the devil and his minions. The righteous and those who called on the name of the Lord will rise with Him to His heavenly abode.
